Dr. Pickering is a clinician-educator and affiliated faculty at the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing (CP3). She is a board-certified internist, providing clinical care as a primary care physician at UPMC General Internal Medicine, Oakland and as an inpatient teaching attending at UPMC Montefiore. Dr. Pickering’s research focuses on characterizing and reducing low-value care and subsequent care cascades and deprescribing low-value medications in older adults. She is particularly interested in applying implementation science principles to develop strategies to support deprescribing and in the de-implementation of other low-value practices. Dr. Pickering is also actively involved in medical student and resident education. She instructs both residents and medical students as an attending on the inpatient internal medicine service at UPMC Montefiore. She also acts as a preceptor for several medical student programs/courses, including the Longitudinal Alliance Program.
