Amanda Moale, MD

Academic Interests

During her time on the T32, Dr. Moale has completed two formative qualitative research projects and one quantitative analysis, resulting in several publications and research presentations. Dr. Moale first evaluated families’ needs and the barriers and facilitators to meeting their needs across critical illness from the perspectives of families, clinicians, and administrators. She then focused on understanding families’ lived experiences with chronic critical illness (CCI) over time and identifying potential intervention targets. These two projects served as formative preliminary data for her KL2 application and provided Dr. Moale with extensive qualitative research training. In parallel, Dr. Moale conducted a quantitative analysis of the association between biological subphenotypes and code status de-escalation in patients with respiratory failure, which strengthened her biostatistics skills and enhanced her repertoire in mixed methods skills.
