Academic Interests

Dr. Bansal's research interests focus on communication strategies, directed interventions, and epidemiology of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) who opt for medical management without dialysis and decision-making related to dialysis initiation. He serves as an attending physician on both the inpatient nephrology and palliative care consult teams and the Associate Program Director for the nephrology fellowship. His outpatient clinical interests are: 1) kidney palliative care, 2) the overlap of kidney disease and liver disease, 3) polycystic kidney disease, 4) IgA nephropathy, and 5) ANCA associated vasculitis. Dr. Bansal is also the Associate Medical Director for Physician THRIVE, which is UPMC's physician wellbeing program and the Director of Quality and Metrics for the Palliative & Supportive Institute.
