Bhavna Seth, MD, MHS

Bhavna Seth, MD, MHS, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Global Health in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a faculty member of the Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease. She trained in medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi University, a century-old public institution serving socioeconomically underprivileged communities, where she graduated first in her class, followed by her Internal Medicine residency in the medical education pathway at Boston University, caring for a diverse urban safety-net population. She then undertook a Global Health fellowship based in Botswana with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School and went on to earn a Master of Health Science in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University.

Her clinical work spans acute critical care and interstitial lung disease, with a particular interest in access to palliative care and oxygen. In 'resource variable' and resource-denied contexts, she uses implementation science and qualitative methods to translate evidence-based critical care, tuberculosis and palliative care practices into health systems where infrastructure, workforce, and supply chains are under strain, with the goal of strengthening health systems in the Global South to deliver high-quality care for neglected diseases and communities.

A committed educator and mentor, Dr Seth enjoys teaching across the spectrum of learners, from medical students and residents to fellows. Her mentoring philosophy is anchored in inviting trainees to work on intractable problems the world urgently needs solved, while cultivating reflective practice, curiosity, bidirectional learning and values-aligned careers, and foregrounding the interconnected nature of patients, health systems and the wider social and ecological worlds in which illness and care unfold.
