Academic Interests

Dr. Bump is a practicing general internal medicine physician and the Medical Director of the UPMC General Internal Medicine - South Clinic in the West Mifflin/South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Dr. Bump provides care for patients ranging from late adolescence to senior citizens. He cares for common medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and liver disease. He is also experience in musculoskeletal conditions as well as seeing patients whose illnesses have not yet been diagnosed.

Dr. Bump takes pride in educating the next generation of doctors. He teaches medical students as well as residents and fellows. During his time at Pitt and UPMC, he has taken greater leadership roles. He was previously the director for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement for Graduate Medical Education. Beginning in 2019, he became the associate dean for graduate medical education and the Designated Institutional Official. In this capacity, Dr. Bump oversees the educational experience of all ACGME accredited residencies and fellowships at UPMC. This includes oversight of more than 130 residency and fellowship programs educating more than 1,600 residents and fellows. Dr. Bump is actively engaged in promoting excellence in education for trainees throughout the UPMC system. His research focuses on medical education of patient safety and quality improvement. He is very dedicated to training the next generation of physicians.
