Gretchen E. White, PhD

Academic Interests

Dr. White's research is varied and spans the topics of career development of health researchers, alcohol and substance use, obesity, and bariatric surgery outcomes. She has an overarching interest in epidemiological methods, particularly those related to the design, conduct, and analysis of observational studies and randomized controlled trials. Dr. White has been MPI of multiple NIH-funded studies and Co-I on many more. Dr. White has published over 60 peer reviewed articles in well-respected, high impact journals.

Dr. White is a highly valued mentored and dedicates a large portion of her effort to mentoring learners at all levels of training. She is the methodological mentor for four career development awards and serves on multiple thesis and doctoral committees. As an Electus Faculty Fellow in the David C. Frederick Honors College, she also mentors undergraduate students and teaches one undergraduate honors course annually. She also teaches Scientific Writing and Presentation Skills, Best Practices in Clinical Research, Advanced Observational Methods, and Clinical Research Methods in the ICRE.
