Academic Interests

 Dr. Jamie Johnston is Professor of Medicine in the department of medicine and renal-electrolyte division. He serves as director of the renal fellowship training program, director of clinical services for the renal-electrolyte division and is the director of the Academy of Master Educators. He teaches at all levels of medical education from the undergraduate honors college through Post graduate medical education. His efforts in education have been recognized with a National Golden Apple Teaching Excellence award from the American Medical Student Association, The Dean’s Master Educator Award, The Sheldon Adler Award for Innovation in medical Education and the University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s Teaching award as well as 16 Excellence in Education awards and seven University of Pittsburgh Golden Apple awards from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) medical Students.

Dr. Johnston collaborates with colleagues in the Division on clinical studies in peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis based renal replacement therapy. Mentor for Dr. Helbert Rondon’s Master Thesis Hyponatremia education.
