Jon grew up in upstate NY and received a degree in biochemistry from Stony Brook University. During his gap years under the mentorship of Dr. Anthony Szema he developed an interest in clinical immunology and lung disease. He went on to receive his MD from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University with distinction in Clinical Translational Research and was inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society. After a year at ChristianaCare/Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware he transferred to UPMC to complete his residency training in Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds). As a resident he had the opportunity to serve as a chief resident and was the recipient of multiple teaching and research awards. He is excited to continue his dual fellowship training at UPMC in both adult and pediatric rheumatology.
Within rheumatology Jon is interested in caring for patients with pediatric-onset disease, scleroderma, cytokine storm syndromes/immune dysregulation, rheumatic diseases with lung disease, environmental exposures, and cellular therapies (e.g. stem cell transplant). Under the mentorship of Dr. Kathryn Torok, he has presented on juvenile scleroderma nationally and internationally.
Outside of rheumatology Jon enjoys mastering the art of keeping his wife’s houseplants alive, photographing his sleeping dog, discovering good eats with friends, attending art classes at Phipps, relaxing by a campfire, and doing a variety of exercises.
