Academic Interests

Dr. Jyotsana Thakkar is a faculty clinician in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She serves as Clinical Director of the Renal-Electrolyte Division and holds key leadership roles as Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Director, and Director of the Fellows Clinic. Her clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with complex kidney diseases. Her areas of special interest include glomerular diseases, kidney disease in pregnancy (obstetric nephrology), and onconephrology, in addition to acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. Dr. Thakkar is actively involved in developing and expanding specialized nephrology programs and works in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including rheumatology, hematology, oncology, and obstetrics, to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. She is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. Through her leadership of APP education, and fellow's clinic, she plays a central role in training the next generation of nephrology clinicians.
