Katie J. Suda, PharmD, MS, joined the CRHC in 2019 following appointments at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy as an Associate Professor and researcher. Dr. Suda’s research focuses on prescribed patterns and implementation strategies to improve prescribing by clinicians and use by patients. As such, Dr. Suda has completed several studies focused on antibiotics, opioids, dual pharmacy use by Veterans, and drug shortages.
Dr. Suda has written >275 peer-reviewed research articles and has received funding as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator from from federal and non-federal sources, such as AHRQ, CDC, FDA, NIH, and the VA. Dr. Suda’s research has informed national policy on antibiotic and opioid stewardship and the importance of population-level data in identifying public health solutions. Dr. Suda has served on expert panels focused on evidence-based prescribing and health policy for federal agencies and professional organizations.
In addition to receiving the ASHP Foundation’s Literature Award for Sustained Contributions, Dr. Suda’s research has been recognized with several national awards, including the ASHP Foundation Literature Award for Drug Therapy Research (2007, 2020), the SIDP Impact Paper in Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Research Award (2007, 2018), the AACP Social and Administrative Sciences Research Publication Award (2018, 2024), the SHEA Antimicrobial Stewardship Scholar Award (2020), and the CDC Shepard Science Award (2017).
Dr. Suda has taught didactically in the areas of infectious diseases, biostatistics, trial design, literature evaluation, and grantsmanship. Experientially, Dr. Suda has precepted clinical rotations focused on medication use policy, drug information, and infectious diseases. She wants every patient to get the medicine they need and not medicines that patients do not need or that may cause harm. To achieve this mission, Dr. Suda is interested in supported interprofessional healthcare teams to facilitate optimal medication prescribing and use.
