As a Geriatrics Health Services Researcher at the University of Pittsburgh and the VA Pittsburgh Center for Healthcare Evaluation Research and Promotion, I study health-related social risk factors for older adults, with a particular focus on inter-personal violence, elder abuse, trauma and caregiving. I have an additional interest in studying firearm ownership and safety in older adults with dementia. My work focuses on improving detection of elder abuse and developing evidence-based, multi-disciplinary interventions to improve outcomes for this population.
I love seeing my older adult patients both in outpatient geriatric primary care and consult clinic, as well as in the inpatient setting. It is a privilege to take care of older Veterans at the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System as a large part of my clinical practice.
I enjoy teaching students, residents and fellows about the unique considerations and holistic approach needed when caring for complex older adults, particularly attending to the social factors that heavily impact health and well-being for us all as we age.
