In February 2016, Dr. Van Deusen became the Medical Director of the Standardized Patient Program at Pitt. In this role, he oversees the aspects of the curricula that use standardized patients for teaching and/or testing clinical skills.

Dr. Van Deusen's clinical interests are in general med-peds, with a focus in the field of pediatric-to-adult transitions. he is passionate about being a primary care physician with a clinical niche in caring for adults with pediatric-onset conditions. Pediatricians from across the region refer their special-needs patients to him as they become too old to be cared for in a pediatric setting. Dr. Van Deusen takes great joy in caring for these patients who often struggle to find adult providers comfortable enough to care for them.
